Can stress kill you?

Stress is your body’s way of responding to any kind of demand or threat. When you feel threatened, your nervous system responds by releasing a flood of stress hormones, including adrenaline and cortisol, which rouse the body for emergency action. Your heart pounds faster, muscles tighten, blood pressure rises, breath quickens, and your senses become sharper. These physical changes increase your strength and stamina, speed your reaction time, and enhance your focus.

Stress can be caused by a physical or emotional change, or a change in your environment that requires you to adjust or respond. Things that make you feel stressed are called “stressors.” Stressors can be minor hassles, major lifestyle changes, or a combination of both.

I have watched interesting programs like The Restoration Man and Grand Designs where I believe the home owners who bought those run down properties experienced a lot of stress to build their new homes. They built them making them architecturally brilliant or they updated a dilapidated Listed building. A listed building is a building or structure which is protected because it is considered to be of special architectural or historic interest.

When the home owners ran out of money during the project which happened on many occasions you would see them struggle to get the monies required to complete the project. Banks gave an approved mortgage before the build where it was agreed they would give money according to the amount of building works that were completed but then decided to withdraw the monies when due during the build.

Some of the owners literally had a heart attack during the project. Whenever I watch these programs I anticipate that there will be a moment during the film that the home owner shows signs of stress and getting ill from attempting the build of his or her new home. Of course some of these home owners had other illnesses which could trigger the heart attack but the stress just made it more likely to happen.

One of the  most stressful things in life are moving home. I think it takes a lot of guts for these people to start such a big project when with the same money they could have bought a ready made home perhaps one which is smaller but still a ready made one all the same. We have one life and when we are gone we cannot enjoy what we have left behind. Is it worth all the hassle? I wonder whether it is better to spend that money in another way like taking a boat cruise or travelling around the world. I believe on reflection that we all need to look after ourselves physically and mentally more.

We should pamper ourselves more as this alleviates stress by having an aromatherapy massage or reflexology massage. I know this because I am qualified with VAI Diploma- 1999 in Aromatherapy and Reflexology and when I have felt personally stressed I get these treatments done to me. Spending money to pamper yourself outweighs anything else as no matter how much you spend on your new rebuild for example if you do not relax you could make yourself sick.

We always want to achieve more and more in our life. The richest usually want to buy bigger better homes than they have already but then if they never have children who would those wonderful homes go to when they die? I guess that most of us have relatives it can go to but all that work and energy to what avail? Our relatives will probably just sell it?

In the case of Graceland which was the home of Elvis Presley, after he died in 1977 neither his daughter nor his ex wife live there. It is now a museum.

Graceland is a mansion on a 13.8-acre (5.6 ha) estate in Memphis, Tennessee that was home to Elvis Presley. It is located at 3764 Elvis Presley Boulevard in the vast Whitehaven community about 9 miles (14.5 km) from Downtown and less than four miles (6 km) north of the Mississippi border.[5] It currently serves as a museum. It was opened to the public on June 7, 1982. The site was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on November 7, 1991, and declared a National Historic Landmark on March 27, 2006. Graceland has become one of the most-visited private homes in America with over 600,000 visitors a year, behind the White House[6] and Biltmore Estate.[7]

Elvis Presley died at the estate on August 16, 1977. Presley, along with his parents Gladys and Vernon Presley, and his grandmother, are buried there in what is called the Meditation Garden. A memorial gravestone for Presley’s stillborn twin brother, Jesse Garon, is also at the site.

I talk about Elvis Presley as an example of the pointlessness of creating too much stress for yourself to then die and not enjoy the fruits of your work. What Elvis Presley earned went to charities and his family. He died at 42 years old of a heart attack. Elvis Presley did not die of a heart attack due to the stress of having Graceland but due to his own demons which were drugs, overeating and I believe losing his wife and child as his wife Priscilla divorced him many years before he had the heart attack. Elvis also suffered from insomnia which causes stress so there are many factors that can lead to stress build up.

It is not rocket science to realise that we all want more in our lives and are never content with what we have. If only we could change this pattern of thinking in the world. If we earned a lot of money we should think of the poor and needy whom we could help before buying that amazing manor or castle for ourselves. When Elvis Presley died he had $6 million to his name as he kept giving his money away.

Stress is a normal part of life. Many events that happen to you and around you, and many things that you do yourself, put stress on your body. You can experience stress from your environment, your body and your thoughts.

I conclude myself that stress can kill you. But if you don’t agree, when you get stressed and start hyperventilating think of how far you are from having a heart attack? Take care of the physical and mental side of yourself and try holistic therapy which treats the individual’s body, spirit, and mind. You may cheat death in this way but note you can not cheat death forever as on-going stress only makes a person more and more ill until it is too late. Look after yourself now and remember stress is not age related.

Death can happen to anyone at any age as it brings on the same symptoms. I had a good friend David who died at 35 years old due to stress and over working. He was not sleeping for many nights in a row working hard as an electrician to reach his goal. Stress does that. It makes you have sleepless nights, worrying about the problem at hand. My friend died before he could reach his destination. He had other issues. His wife left him saying she did not love him and kept the family home. She had custody of their son. David threw himself into work. I never saw him drink or smoke. I believe he was very sad inside. I could see that in his eyes when he spoke about his son and how he still really loved his wife.

I was not a psychic tarot cards reader at that time as I had just graduated with my Psychology degree and was trying to start up a new business in lettings. If only I had known then what I know now maybe I could have helped David to improve his life style and advised him to see a doctor or therapist before it was too late. I was 21 years old and had little understanding at that time of the real world. I was really immature and trying to understand the meaning of life which is probably why I studied Psychology in the first place.

I made many mistakes myself in my young years just from lack of experience of life. I never let stress dominate my life however and I would get stressed many times. Thinking back now I knew that David would work 3 days in a row without sleeping and that should have been a sign that he was not respecting his health and wellbeing. No extra money earned is worth lack of sleep. David would do this on most of his jobs. Normally we all work an 8 hour shift, rest and then sleep 8 hours. I could never have known that David would die.

Stress is a silent killer.

With the increasing rise of divorce and single parents in all parts of the world, we should learn the recipe to happiness. Some people may know the recipe to happiness which is wonderful but what about the rest of us? How can we protect ourselves from a broken heart? Who am I to say I know the recipe? I don’t.

I can only guide you to avoid you being caught in the hands of a fraud. There are so many people out there trying to get our money, get leave to stay in the uk by marrying a British Citizen. The demand for this is so high that the fraudsters feel nothing for you but will do anything to get what they want including pretend they love you, shower you with gifts and sweet words until they get what they want. After that you are nothing and they walk out without even looking back at you.

You were nothing to them from the beginning. Just a tool to get from A to B. Do not believe that you are so special that they love you and only love you. Of course some may be genuine but when you are in love you do not see what is in front of you. Listen to what others are saying including your family. They can usually see the real thing; the live performance in front of their eyes. But you know what, we are always right, isn’t it?

So now to the answer to this question: How do you know when someone you love is using you? Unless you spend a lot of physical time with your partner or friend they cannot love you. The number of hours you spend together are vital. I understand quality is important too but in relationships a bond cannot happen without the physical time spent. This is my experience of love. There will be many out there to disagree with me but I know that you can not love someone by not being with them and just being on the phone all the time for example. Distant relationships can work if the 2 people have spent a lot of time together before being parted. Remember that after being parted, distance can always cause a barrier to the relationship blossoming also. They say distance makes the heart grow fonder. That is true too but not so much distance that you do not see other for months on end and the other person takes consolation in someone new who lives nearer to them. Of course this depends on the strength of your love with that person before you separated also.

If you find that your partner does not want to spend time with you as much as he or she does with their friends then you need to wonder why he or she is with you? Arguing with your partner about this will not give you the true answer. Silence speaks a thousand words. I am a Psychic tarot cards reader and I believe we all need to meditate and take some me time alone to think about each day that passes. Close your eyes and perhaps rest on the sofa just thinking. You can of course do this sitting at your desk but not staring at the computer. You do not even need to close your eyes but you do need to close all other thoughts out of your mind and just think about the problem at hand. Be calm and relaxed when doing this breathing normally.

Intuition and gut feelings will give you the answer. Children and babies use this innate power to tell whether a person is good or evil. They can usually sense the good or bad aura of a person when they enter the room. If you have kids check this out yourself. I studied Psychology to degree level and one of the most interesting things I found out about babies is that they even know if it is a boy or girl baby in front of them while both are fully clothed. You know babies look the same at birth and afterwards for a long time. However it is the dilation of their eyes that are different when they are in front of a boy or girl. This has been scientifically proven. it would be normal for a baby to be apprehensive of strangers as we should also be. Babies are more vulnerable physically and mentally but are we not the same even as adults. The amount of damage strangers have done to adults. We are usually very trusting when we have grown up thinking we can tell the difference between good and evil but we are so busy rushing about in our lives that we do not notice what is really in front of us. We need to stop now and again and think about this.

So what happened to us as adults? Why did we lose that innate ability? Actually some of us still have that ability if only we would follow what our sixth sense is telling us? I urge you to follow that third sense as I do. It will help you realise the truth of your relationship which may be that you are in a good relationship even. Many times I have made excuses for friends who hardly ever visited me saying ohh they are probably just busy and have their own problems. Is that true?

Then the time came when a tragedy happened to me in my life and I got clear perspective of all the people around me. In fact the friends I believed were my true friends disappeared. My true friends turned up on my doorstep in my time of need. I loved those friends who did not contact me for a very long time after I realised they did not love me in return.

Now when I look back I realise that those friends I loved and I would shower with birthday presents every year forgot my birthday every year. They never turned up with presents like I did to their house. It is the same in a love relationship. Does he or she care or remember your Birthday or Valentines Day. He or she does not have to be a romantic and give you a present but he should be with you on that special day of yours whether it be your Birthday or Valentines Day. After all do we really want the present or do we want to spend our special time with our partner either just watching tv together or enjoying a nice takeaway together or just cooking and fighting in the kitchen all day. I think being together is the most important thing to prove love to me. I don’t need the fancy car or the diamond ring because when I leave this world I leave all that behind. I want to know that I  have spent my time here enjoying myself with my partner not staring at the diamond ring he gave me and he is not with me.

This is a subject very close to my heart due to the experiences I have had and I believe it is this previous experience that opened my eyes. People like me only realise our mistakes after making the mistakes. We cannot read a blog like this and learn from it. At least I could not. I always thought I was right. I can write for ever on this subject but this is a blog not a thesis. I would like you to spend some alone time today and think about the relationships in your life and put each one in its correct box. Do not do what I did and loved everybody when I later found they did not love me back. I am talking about friends, family and partners. Love comes in many forms and whichever form it takes it should be the real thing. We need to learn to see through the ones that want to fool us and see the ones that truly love us.

Is becoming a tarot reader satisfying and does it make mega bucks?

I started reading tarot cards for people in 2003. Before that I was mystified by what tarot cards were and how they came to be. I once did a ougie board after school in the classroom with a group of classmates when I was 12 but the board spelt out goat meaning the devil and us kids we all ran out of the classroom scared witless. None of us ever contemplated doing that again and I am glad as by us children innocently playing the ougie board we could have unwittingly brought evil spirits to hound us in this world. We got off lightly. I never did that again!

I would get tarot readings done by different fortune tellers when I was at college or studying to be a graduate and then even after that. I was fascinated by divination and the occult but too scared to learn to do tarot readings myself and plus I did not think I had the skills to do it.  A few years before 2003 I started seeing one tarot reader. She was very good. I could never understand how she knew what was coming ahead of me in my future as my past was a mixture of things that had not made me happy. I wanted to move on but did not know how to. She taught me how to do tarot readings as she had prepared lessons to learn tarot that all her customers could buy.

My profession in my twenties was a Lettings Manager in London and I did that for 23 years. It was very difficult managing tenants and property maintenance so after spending half my life doing that I decided I had had enough and packed that in. I sold up shop and moved on. I decided to put my heart and soul into my tarot readings which was what I started with actually as I did my degree in Psychology. I was always interested in this field. I had worked with elderly and mentally retarded and handicapped children and adults before I worked in the letting field.

Building a business is never easy especially when you do not have the background for it. I should have studied business management to degree level or learnt to become a programmer as it seems nowadays that is where the mega bucks are apart from the accountants, lawyers and the usual NHS profession which none of us can live without.

If you are thinking whether you should learn to become a tarot reader or not I would say the answer is yes as it is highly rewarding. You will get to meet and speak to many different types of people with varied problems. Some are obsessed with their careers and getting to the top and some just want a family and not much more. Then there are those who have suffered a tragedy in their lifetime like myself but we all get through it as it is survival of the fittest after all. I am a survivor and I think you are too because you are reading this.

Coming back to the question: Is becoming a tarot reader satisfying and does it make mega bucks? I have found becoming a tarot reader very satisfying as I have helped many people get back their pride and self esteem and are able to move on with their life leaving the bad times behind. This includes following the right career pathway as well as the correct passage to love. There are evil powers trying to pull us down throughout our life and the angels of heaven pull us out.

I am sure you have all experienced a deja vu experience where we see something and recognise that we had already seen that event either before or in our dreams. Making mega bucks is not why I decided to become a tarot reader and if you think like that then you can never be a good tarot reader. Remember the reason why you wanted to learn to do tarot readings. You can make mega bucks if you diversify and get other psychics to do your work and take a commission from each booking or you can dwell on writing your own ebooks of knowledge and on learning how to do tarot readings, writing blogs and writing articles constantly for the newspaper or other media so you are picked up by many new customers. Can you put in the hard work to make the mega bucks?

I wrote this to make you think whether this is the pathway you want to take? It is not easy to make a lot of money in this field without putting in years of hard graft. It takes a long time also to learn the meanings of the 78 tarot cards in a tarot deck and then to apply the knowledge to real customers. I studied the Rider Waite Tarot Cards as this is my favourite deck. You need to spend a lot of quiet time in a kind of semi meditation state. You must open your mind to the cards and fathom out the story the cards are trying to tell you. I wanted to rock your world and make you realise that I really enjoy reading tarot cards for people and I want you to enjoy it too. I would say to everybody give it a shot if you enjoy helping people. We are well aware that the body needs help when we are ill or when we get old. But what about the mind? It also needs consoling and counselling. Some people are able to manage this aspect themselves whereas there are others that don’t trust their intuition or gut feelings to follow what is so clearly the right pathway. I would not call the latter weak but I would say that those people have intentionally decided to find out what is the right pathway to take? So which is better? Both are correct as they are leading their life the way they feel best. Learning to read the tarot cards are like learning a new language. It is a language of pictures and the tarot reader is assessing meanings to the pictures and relaying it back to the querent to make them understand what the cards are trying to tell him or her.

In answer to my question: Is becoming a tarot reader satisfying and does it make mega bucks? Tarot reading is a personal thing so I can only speak for myself. I find it very satisfying and no it does not make me mega bucks but then I did not go into doing this to make big money. I would like to share my knowledge and powers to help people. We come into this world with nothing and we leave this world with nothing but memories of us remain. What type of a legacy would you like to leave? I would hope to be remembered for what I gave back to this world. Wouldn’t you?

What is Aromatherapy and Reflexology?

Aromatherapy oils come from natural plant extracts which have healing properties.

WHAT IS AROMATHERAPY?
Aromatherapy is the use of organic essences of aromatic plants for healing and the maintenance of vitality with a body massage. Body massage is the manipulation of the soft tissues of the body by the hands to produce muscular, vascular and nervous effects. There are 5 classical movements in body massage which are effleurage, petrissage, friction, tapotement and vibrations. These movements will be used by the therapist when the client is being massaged. There is no substitute for the human hand. Hands can be used as a natural way of healing. The essences, or,’essential oils’, as they are commonly known are extracted from a wide variety of plants,and are very concentrated. Aromatherapy is a truly holistic therapy, as it aims to treat the whole person by taking account not only of their physical state but also their emotions, which can have a profound effect on general well-being. It works on the principle that the most effective way to promote health and prevent illness is to strengthen the body’s immune system; in so doing, it helps to restore the harmony between mind and body.

WHAT IS THE HISTORY OF AROMATHERAPY?
Knowledge of how to make use of the beneficial effects of aromatic plants developed gradually. By 3500 BC, the priestesses of the Egyptian temples were burning gums and resins, such as Frankincense, to clear the mind. The Romans used essential oils for massage, and aromatic herbs within the home.

In 17th Century England, pomanders made of Oranges and Cloves were used to ward off the Black Death. Great herbalists such as Culpepper used essential oils such as Peppermint and Rosemary as an integral part of their medicine.

Aromatic substances played important roles in the medicinal practices of the Hebrew, Arabic and Indian civilisation. But for the ancient Egyptians aromatherapy was a way of life. At about the time that the Chinese were developing acupuncture, the Egyptians were using balsamic substances in both religious ritual and medicine. Records dating back to 4500 BC tell of perfumed oils, scented barks and resins, of spices, aromatic vinegars, wines and beers all used in medicine, ritual, astrology and embalming. When Tutankhamun’s tomb was opened in 1922, many pots were found containing substances such as Myrrh and Frankincense, both derived from tree resins: these were used as much for medicine as for perfume, the two being interchangeable at the time.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF AROMATHERAPY?
There are many physiological effects of aromatherapy: The blood circulation is increased. Increased circulation brings nourishment and oxygen to the muscles and absorbs waste products. Waste product (lactic acid) formed in the muscles during strenuous exercise is re-absorbed and stiffness relieved. Development of muscle tone and elasticity can be promoted. Tense and short muscles are relaxed and stretched. It helps weak muscles and joints move more easily. Relaxation of tense muscles and improved tone in slack muscles can lead to improved posture, ie. For treating round shoulders.

There are many psychological effects of aromatherapy: Client feels rejuvenated and more able to cope with things. Beauty radiates from within. If you feel good, you look better and well. Brisk, stimulating massage will help the client to feel more alert. It gives overweight people an incentive to diet as they feel that the therapist is working on fatty areas, client will, in turn, try harder with their diet. In soothing aches adn pains, tension is relieved, the body and face will naturally be more relaxed, the client will look happier and younger. The luxury of a beauty salon with relaxing surroundings gives the clients relief from a hectic daily life and the opportunity to be pampered. Some clients feel inclined to talk out their problems or worries and this can relieve some tension in the client.

WHAT IS REFLEXOLOGY?
Reflexology is a form of, ‘Alternative’, or ‘Complementary’, medicine. It involves a method of treatment using massage to the reflex areas found in the feet and the hands. The ancient healing art of reflexology has been known to man for thousands of years. It was first practiced by the early Indian, Chinese and Egyptian peoples. In 1913, Dr. William Fitzgerald, an American ear, nose and throat surgeon, put forward the idea of, ‘Zone therapy’. Zones are longitudinal lines of energy ascending from the feet to the brain. Reflexology is based on zone therapy. When applying pressure to the feet, we are working on this basis, stimulating these lines which have a rejuvenating and healing effect on the entire human body. We have 10 zones, five on each foot representing 1,2,3,4,5, with zone 1 as the big toe and zone 5 as the smallest toe. The thumb is zone 1 and the little finger is zone 5.

In the 1930’s, Eunice Ingham, a psychotherapist originated the first maps which charted the body onto the feet. She expounded the doctrine that all parts of the body could be affected by pressure on clearly defined areas of the feet, particularly on the soles. When you treat the big toes, there is a related effect in the head, and treating the whole foot can have a relaxing and healing effect on the body.

How Can Reflexology Help You?
The body has the ability to heal itself. After illness, stress, injury or disease, it is in a state of, “imbalance”, and important energy pathways are blocked, stopping the body from functioning well. Reflexology can restore the body’s equilibrium and encourage healing. Obstructions in the energy lines register pain, eg. stiff neck or a painful back. Obstructions also interfere with blood circulations and this is noticed mainly in the hands in feet. Hands become stiff, cold and painful. Waste products accumulate at the lowest point of gravity, which is clearly felt under the thumb and fingers as you work on the feet. There is no substitute for the human hand. The feet are really a mirror of the body. The condition of our feet and the way we use them reveals our physical and mental state and influences not nly their own performance but the functioning of our mind and body as well. Consultation with a chiropodist to remove hard skin and deal with corns and calluses prior to commencing reflexology treatment sessions is highly recommended.

TREATMENTS
6 Treatments are recommended for the therapy to work to its full potential. Have a course of 6 massages and you will get the 7th treatment for half price and this will need to be paid for by paypal. The therapist will send you a payment request by email to pay for the 7th treatment. When you first visit us you will need to go through a consulatation sheet with the therapist to verify that you do not have any contra-indications to the therapy that will be given to you. On your first session, you will need to arrive 15 minutes before your treatment in order to fill in the consultation sheet, after which the therapist will be going through this sheet with you. Please bring your doctor’s details with you when you come. We will not be contacting your GP without your written consent.

AFTER CARE ADVICE

  1. Drink lots of fluids especially water and herbal teas for at least 12 hours after treatment. This helps to flush the toxins and stops dehydration for the client. Aromatherapy encourages lymphatic flow. The more you drink, the more your body flushes out its toxins. Avoid a bath or shower for 6 – 12 hours after treatment. It takes 3 – 4 hours for the oil to be absorbed into the skin. Do not have a sauna, steambath, sunbed or go swimming within 12 hours of having a treatment. This causes further dehydration. With swimming, chlorine can combine with the chemical of the essential oil and this can be toxic.
  2. Avoid using a hairdryer for 6 – 8 hours after the treatment due to dehydration. This also can cause a build up of heat and this is not good for you. Cut down or cut out your tea, coffee and do not drink any alcohol on the day you have an aromatherapy treatment. Avoid strenuous exercise prior or after the treatment.
  3. Do not have a heavy meal 2 hours prior to a treatment and 6 hours after the treatment. This is because if you have eaten, your digestive system is working at full steam and it takes time for food to be digested. This can cause you to feel sick if the therapist is working on your abdomen. Also the body cannot concentrate solely on detoxification if it requires the digestion of your food to be completed also.
  4. Try to have a nice relaxing day. Do not go shopping. The treatment can cause toxins to build up which can cause a headache or nausea. Allow rest for 15 minutes after your treatment. Clients taking homeopathy remedies should contact the practitioner about the treatment. They can get advice from him. If you are taking any homeopathic medicines these may cause an irritation or a problem when the chemicals in the medicine become mixed with the essential oils that are absorbed into your blood stream. The same applies toany other medicines you are taking.
  5. Take fresh fruit and vegetables. Avoid red meat. Drink 4 pints of water if possible to flush out the toxins from your body. Try to do some exercises especially stretching exercises as these are good for you. There are many alternative therapies that you may wish to try. Some examples are Chinese Herbalism, Homeopathy, Crystal Therapy, Bach Flower remedies, Feng Shui, Shiatsu, Acupressure, Affirmations and Visualilsations, Osteopathy, Chiropractic, Spiritual and Absent Healing.
  6. The Alexander Technique is very good as it teaches you about posture; stand and walk with your back straight, sit with your back straight, pick up items from the floor by squatting which is bending your knees and then pick up the item keeping your back straight when doing this.
  7. Post-nasal crisis; this is where you may suffer from nausea, headaches, stomach rumbling, runny nose, sneezing, runny eyes, skin might break out in spots cleansing the body, bowels may open frequently where you have to keep running to the toilet, feeling emotional after an aromatherapy treatment. I got Pass with Distinction for Diet & Nutrition Advisors Diploma

Diet you are what you eat 6

My final assignment for my Diet and Nutrition Advisor Level 3 Course was, Write at least 1000 words on ‘You are what you eat’. This was my reply.

I want to start with saying that, ‘You are what you eat’ means that to be fit and healthy you need to eat good food. So what are good foods and what are bad foods? Brillat-Savarin or Feuerbach stated that the food one eats has a bearing on what is one’s state of mind and health. In the 1920s and 30s, the nutritionist Victor Lindlahr, who was a strong believer in the idea that food controls health, developed the Catabolic Diet. He stated that, “Ninety per cent of the diseases known to man are caused by cheap foodstuffs. You are what you eat.” Foods to avoid in a healthy diet are fats and sugars. Foods that are good for us are fibre rich diets like bran, oats, muesli. One simple way to increase fibre intake is to power up on bran. Bran from many grains is very rich in dietary fibre. Oat bran is high in soluble fibre, which has been shown to lower blood cholesterol levels. Wheat, corn, and rice bran are high in insoluble fibre, which helps prevent constipation. They absorb water and are eventually excreted from the body. They provide many nutrients for our body. Fruit and vegetables also have fibre in them. Fats, proteins, vitamins and minerals are required in their desired levels every day and too little or too much causes diseases or illnesses. Diet does not mean eating to lose weight. It simply means eating the right types of food. These include eating the five a day which is constantly prescribed on the television and at GP receptions as well as on the side of buses these days. Each year the UK has a higher rate of obese people than before and this needs to be controlled to avoid the increasing mortality rates that occur due to this.

The five a day prescribed is made up of fruit and vegetables so it can be 3 fruits and 2 vegetables or 2 fruits and 3 vegetables but it does not mean 10 a day as an obese friend of mine seems to think. She eats 6 apples a day plus vegetables with her dinner she told me last week and I informed her that this is above the 5 a day health requirement. It is excessive for her daily needs. An average woman takes 1500 calories per day and an average man takes 2000 calories per day. Eating more than these requirements will lead to obesity. I told my friend that she can eat 3 apples per day though variation of fruits is recommended in order to attain the different nutrients offered by different fruits. She can have the balance of 2 vegetables on the same day as a salad or boiled vegetables with her meals. She said she works all day and cannot live without her 6 apples a day and she said to me how do I know what to eat when I myself am overweight.

I agree I am overweight right now and this is why I decided to do this Diploma in Diet and Nutrition Level 3 so that I can learn the facts about foods and learn to eat the correct way and become slim again. When reading about apples on this course it stated that excessive eating of apples is a craving for saturated fats which are meat pies, cakes, pastries, sausages. We crave the things our body is lacking in relation to nutrients. A craving for a food item is linked to what we are lacking in our body. Our body knows what it requires even though it seems our mind does not. An obese person may continue to eat junk food and cakes because they are addicted to food and they feel happiness in eating the food which they do not feel normally as being obese has its own problems of not being able to run, climb stairs without losing breath, their knees and feet swell up as they can no longer take their weight.

Your eyes are bigger than your stomach” means that people tend to take more food than they can or should eat. I think this is true for a lot of people. I have chatted to many slim, fit people and asked them how they manage to stay slim, the answer is the same,’ I don’t eat sweets or oily foods and I love eating fruits. I like eating raw vegetables like carrots and celery. I do not eat chocolate or cakes’. There is your answer. Yes, there really are people like that.

The government has to pay using tax payers money for life threatening operations that occur every day due to obesity to save these people. In the past years the UK has suffered with food shortage and rations especially during the three world wars that took place, bad hygiene as well as dirty environments and people would die much earlier than now. They were never fat during the world wars but they may die due to lack of nutrients required leading to diseases and illnesses. The average person would live to 40 years of age in 1800’s England. Now the average age to live in 2015 England is 81 years. This is continually rising due to better health and safety practices in the work, home, environment, medical advances, new drugs, medicines, cures to illnesses found.

Fats and sugars are good for you in the permitted amounts required per day but in the UK it is found that obesity is prevalent due to the high amounts that obese people intake of fats and sugars. They are found in pies, cakes, pastries, biscuits, fried foods like fish and chips, fatty meats, sausages. Some of these items can be substituted as in the case of having grilled fish and chips, grilled sausages, eating fruits instead of cakes and biscuits. This needs to be done from birth really as good habits stay with us if they have grown with us and the opposite applies for bad habits stay with us if they have grown with us. Children that lose teeth due to eating sugary foods and excessive acidic fruits or juices suffer as adults with dentures and having to get implanted teeth at a cost of thousands of pounds along with suffering decaying teeth and gums throughout life unless their food habits change.

You are what you eat is normally obvious from your body type. Appearance gives that one away. The 3 body types are thin, slim and fat. Ideally people should be slim as both being underweight and overweight leads to illnesses and diseases that can lead to death. Anorexia and bulimia are diseases that cause a person to become underweight and even die. Anorexia is where the person eats hardly at all and bulimia is where the person overeats and them vomits all the food out immediately after overeating. With both diseases, the body does not get the required nutrients. The person’s immune system breaks down and the person is unable to defend itself against colds and illnesses that the body fights off on a daily basis. Look at yourself in the mirror today and decide whether you want to make a change in your eating habits. When the mirror looks back at you, what does it say to you? Your eyes may be bigger than your stomach but the mirror speaks the truth. If you know someone who is anorexic or bulimic or perhaps you yourself are, when you look at that mirror, you may see a fat person in it when really you are underweight. Ask your friends or family to be honest and tell you whether you need to lose or put on weight. Even better everyone should see their local GP for a free health check from time to time and from there you will find out the truth also before it is too late. No-one should live in the dark with their health. You are what you eat.

1st March 2016 has crept up on us and Spring is here at last. Time for us to start thinking about our oncoming Summer; a period of fun, frolicking and happiness both with our friends and family.

Hi, The photo of the tarot table above is my tarot table in my lounge. It makes me feel more spiritual, have calm within myself and the feeling of tranquility when I light up the candle at night-time using the oil burner with rose oil or a rose scented josh stick. Last month I spent a lot of time writing posts for my blog. My posts reflected what was going on in my life and I would like to share them with you. Like myself you must have different moods that affect you throughout the month and you deal with them in your own way. My way is to put my thoughts into writing which is why I enjoy writing my posts for my blog. I want to share my finds with you.

I get a catharsis by releasing all my inner thoughts onto a page of writing. Even when I was little I used to write a diary. Have you ever trying doing that; putting your thoughts into writing? In the past when we did not use computers so much we would write in a diary or on a notepad. Even now sometimes I prefer to write on a notepad as I don’t always trust the internet to keep my feelings secret. Hackers can see anything. I hope you have enjoyed reading my posts and seeing my latest video. Have a lovely time this month and let me know how you have been getting on. I have decided to lose some weight before the Summer comes because my doctor told me recently I may have diabetes, raised cholesterol and low thyroid but that it is all borderline. I hope to reverse this diagnosis by losing the weight and diet control. I got such a scare that I started a Diet and Nutrition’s Diploma course at Stonebridge Associated Colleges two weeks ago. It is so tough that I had to resit a couple of assignments this weekend gone. I did that and passed them I was told today by email as it is an open university course from Stonebridge associated Colleges. Another 10 more assignments to go to complete the course but the assignments are getting harder now. Wish me luck.

I recently completed a Counselling Skills Diploma at Stonebridge Associated Colleges and I got a Pass with Distinction. That was tough too. I wrote about it in one of my above posts. As a tarot reader it is stated that having a background of psychology and counselling is very useful when helping people with their problems. I have BSc Hons Psychology (1990) and now the Counselling Skills Diploma (2016). I completed my skills in holistic therapy as an aromatherapist and reflexologist (1999) so I know that natural essential oils can really help with our moods as well as cure serious as well as not so serious illnesses.

How is your health? Remember if you feel your health is not good you must see a GP before contacting a healer or therapist. I have a friend whose mother was sick with cancer and her mother refused to get treatment from doctors as she believed more in seeing her healers. She eventually died. Nothing can replace the medical profession when it comes to our health. They do amazing things everyday from transplanting organs from other people to finding cures for serious illnesses along with the normal accident and emergency department in all hospitals.

This is one of the questions I was asked on my final assessment for the Counselling Skills Diploma at Stonebridge Associated Colleges. I feel that the content of this post will help a lot of people understand what is required to become a counsellor. If you are impatient and cannot sit still long enough to listen to your friends problems then why should your friends listen to your problems? While listening to someone who is pouring their heart out to you means looking at that individual and showing full interest in what they are saying. It does not include looking at your mobile phone constantly or watching the television because something there looks more interesting.

Even worse it does not mean interrupting your friend pouring his or her heart out to you while you decide to make a quick phone call to someone or even answer a phone call. Tell me how many times have you done that? If this is true then you could not make a good counsellor nor a good friend. Caring and empathy is required when someone is down. I have had friends not prepared to listen and our friendship did not last. They showed that they did not care about me at all. Who needs friends like that? I think you will agree.

You may not have meant to ignore your friend when he or she needed you because you had so much on your mind and so many of your own problems but it is cruel to treat your friend when they most need you like that. Good friends are hard to come by. Don’t be selfish. Listen to them and put that phone down and stop looking at the television when they are upset. The time will come when you need them and they are no longer there.

I am a Psychic Tarot Cards Reader since 2003. My background is BSc Hons Psychology (1990) and I was also a practising Aromatherapist and Reflexologist (VAI Diploma – 1999). I hope to have a Counselling Skills Diploma (2016) after completing this course today. I have always been interested in Psychology which is why I did the degree when I was 19 years old. I enjoy helping people with their problems. I initially wanted to become a psychotherapist when I completed my degree but I did not have the money to pay for this so I worked as a Lettings Manager for 23 years. I sold that business 3 years ago. However 1.5 years later a tragedy happened where my house burnt down and I suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). I myself have had Cognitive Behavioural Therapy CBT and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and I felt that both these therapies have really helped me. I hope to use this basic counselling skills diploma in my tarot readings as some of my clients really need counselling also. All tarot readers are encouraged to have a background in counselling. I feel that I have learnt a lot on this course.

I am confident that I have all the below ten qualities and characteristics required to be a counsellor. I am older now and I believe that with age comes experience and wisdom which are both good qualities to have as a professional counsellor.

Patience
As a counsellor you need to have patience with your clients as they process the discussion. It may take them time to accept certain things and to move towards positive changes. Some people need to discuss something many times before they are prepared to make a move in any particular direction. Also, you are not likely to see large changes in an individual client; therefore, you must be okay with incremental progress in their lives and rejoice over small victories.

Good Listener
Counsellors spend a significant amount of time listening to their clients. You will do more listening than talking. You must be content to give the client time to express their story and their feelings. You will need to be intuitive in discerning what the client is really saying and “read between the lines”.

Compassionate
It is very important that your clients feel your compassion for their problems and that they sense you truly care about them. You may not be able to relate to every issue that is shared with you, but you need to be able to have compassion for how it feels to be in their shoes. Genuine concern yields positive results.

Non-judgmental
Counsellors hear all kinds of private information and encounter all types of people. You may hear dark secrets from someone’s past involving such things as sexual or criminal behaviour. You must do you best to refrain from judgment and instead communicate positive regard. There are times when it may be necessary to judge a particular behaviour, but the client must not feel that you are judging them. Likewise, you may encounter clients of different races and/or cultures. You must not push your cultural or religious views upon them. Multicultural competency is a necessary skill. The counselling environment needs to be a safe place for a client to share their most intimate concerns.

Research-Oriented
Being a counsellor involves a significant amount of time spent researching. You will need to stay current on the research in order to help your clients. This involves reading books and journal articles on a regular basis. You do not learn everything you need to know while in college. Much of your knowledge will come from personal research after you have begun to see clients.

Empathetic
Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of others. You need to be able to put yourself in the shoes of your client and understand the situation from their point of view. Even if you don’t agree with their perspective, you still need the ability to understand how it feels to them in order to address their issue effectively. However, it’s important that you are not too empathetic. Some people struggle as counsellors because they are unable to maintain objectivity and therefore carry home the emotional stress of the job. The level of empathy necessary can be a fine line between helpful to client and harmful to counsellor.

Discrete
Confidentiality is of upmost importance when you are a counsellor. You must be able to maintain confidentiality so the client can trust you with their most intimate concerns.

Encouraging
The ability to encourage is important for a counsellor. Many clients are struggling to find hope in their situation. One of the primary jobs of a counsellor often involves instilling hope in a hopeless individual.

Self-Aware
A counsellor who is aware of their own fears, insecurities, and weaknesses will be effective in the therapeutic relationship. It is important that you do not react defensively to what a client shares. You must be able to keep your own feelings out of the session. You will be better able to do this if you are self-aware. In addition, self-aware individuals are more intuitive with regards to solving their own problems and can use that knowledge to help clients through similar situations.

Authenticity
Authenticity is vital when working with clients. Clients will know if you are being fake or not showing genuine concern. They will not open up to you or trust your advice unless they feel you are genuine. This is even more critically important when working with teens.
